I recognized my explanation was far too complicated. I realized I needed to have a sentence; one short sentence to explain Mornings with Monette. I paused and challenged myself to articulate my podcast’s purpose in one concise statement. It came to me right there. You talk business and mindsets on your podcast. You talk about these areas from a Biblical, Christian perspective. So here is my sentence: “Mornings with Monette empowers women to design their dream life through Biblical business and mindset strategies, one intentional decision at a time.”

Clarity

Do we have clarity about who we are and what we do? This got me to thinking, we need to spend some time on this. This will help us in so many ways. If we can narrow down and define specifically what we are about, this will help us prioritize our time. This will help us in our decision making.

So how about you? If someone were to ask you to narrow down, what you’re about, can you do it? Have you taken the time to define yourself? That’s what I want us to spend time on today. Especially here at the first of the year, as we are looking at the year ahead.

I looked up “clarity” and this is what I found: “Clarity plays a pivotal role in achieving success and staying motivated by providing direction, focus, and confidence. When goals are clearly defined, they act as a roadmap, enabling us to prioritize tasks, make effective decisions, and take consistent action toward achieving their objectives. Clarity enhances motivation by fostering a sense of purpose and confidence, even in the face of challenges. It also helps overcome obstacles by turning them into opportunities for growth and innovation. Ultimately, clarity aligns actions with long-term aspirations, ensuring progress and fulfillment.”

Let’s get started

One of the most powerful ways to get our brains to work for us is to ask it questions. Over the past few weeks, I have been coming up with questions for myself to get my brain out of the autopilot of routine. I’ve been re-evaluating everything I can think of. I believe that if we don’t check ourselves, we can fall into the trap of conserving brain calories and we end up like zombies—experiencing our lives, but not really conscious. Do you do this? Where you are driving in your car to a destination, you’ve driven this so many times, that when pulling into the parking lot, you kind of wake up and think: “Wow I just drove here?” It was like I was in a self-driving car. Has that ever happened to you? I believe this is how so many of us live our lives.

The Power of Asking Questions

I was introduced to the power of asking ourselves intentional questions a long time ago. We all unconsciously ask ourselves questions daily. And we answer those questions. The problem is most of the questions are self-defeating. Here are some examples:

“Why am I not good enough?”—This reinforces feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.

“Why do I always fail?”—This assumes failure is inevitable and discourages growth or effort.

“What’s the point of trying?”—This promotes hopelessness and prevents progress toward goals.

“Why do bad things always happen to me?” —This fosters a victim mentality and limits problem-solving.

Most people don’t even know they have these thought loops going on in their heads; that these are their default questions.

I want to challenge you to think about your thinking! Once you recognize these thought loop patterns, you can change them. I say this all the time. I am a Bible believing Christian and the Bible gives us scripture that addresses this very thing. That we are to take every thought captive. Here is one scripture, 2 Corinthians 10:5, which reads: “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

These self-defeating questions come from the place of believing we are worthless. So many people buy this lie. Scripture tells us, as believers, we are children of God.

John 1:12-13, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

This verse powerfully counters the enemy’s lie of worthlessness by emphasizing that believers are deliberately chosen, loved unconditionally, and adopted into God’s family through faith in Jesus Christ. Our worth is not determined by our actions, but by God’s immeasurable love and grace. We must hold on to this truth!

Redirect your Mind with Intentional Powerful Questions

I’m going to give you some examples of what I’ve been asking myself since the start of this year. You can come up with your own questions for yourself, I’m just going to give you some examples.

What are the desires I have for my life?

Monette what do you really want? One of the things I wrote is: “I want a thriving successful podcast.” I then asked myself: “What are new things you could be doing to make this happen?” I then brainstormed a bunch of answers like, I want to figure out how to get my listeners email addresses to build a more intimate relationship with them. How can you do that? I then started writing things like, for Christmas a gift I received from my son, was that he created and designed an amazing website for my podcast. It was such a cool and thoughtful gift. I started thinking, I can start gathering email addresses there. Do you see what I am doing here? I am making my brain work for me, by asking myself questions.

Here are some other real-life questions I’ve asked myself!

Why am I sitting with this dream? Is it a God led dream or a me-led dream?

Here’s another one. What do I want less of this year? Here’s a few things I wrote:

Mindless scrolling on social media without a purpose

I want less stuff in my closet, in general I want less stuff

Over-stressing myself with things I can’t control

Another question: What can you envision for yourself this year that if you worked for this goal, you’d be so proud of yourself?

I wrote, what if you got better using my new Mac computer?

I then went online and signed up for some Mac classes at the Apple Store.

Intentional, powerful questions help you find the answers.

How can you expose your podcast to like-minded people? I looked up some local Christian women’s groups and thought: “What if you were a guest speaker?” As you follow me on this here, I am focusing on the topic of asking questions about improving my podcast and growing my audience. You can ask your specific questions that fit your personal dreams and desires. I’m just sharing mine to give you concrete examples.

Just like I shared at the beginning, when I asked myself, Monette what if you get more clarity and can share with someone in one sentence what your podcast is about, what would you say? And my sentence is: “My podcast helps women design their dream life through biblical, business, and mindset strategies—one intentional decision at a time.” This seems so simple, but by seeking clarity I have an incredible new tool.

This brings me back to the original thought for this topic. If you want to spend less time going around in circles with your thoughts, feeling overwhelmed and uncertain—this is the answer!

It’s all about clarity! The answer is not out there. The answer is in yourself. Asking powerful intentional questions and giving yourself the thinking time to answer those questions is the answer. We all have different dreams and desires, and we all have these thinking brains. We can become curious and resourceful by asking powerful questions.

One side note I believe we all need to be aware of, that can also slow us down from reaching our goals and dreams is I believe our world has so many enticing distractions. We run to our phones for the dopamine hit as we scroll through social media. We find ourselves binging on Netflix, Amazon Prime and getting pulled in to the newest series. I struggle with this myself. I can waste so much time. I must discipline myself in this area. We can have the best of intentions but we have to be aware of time stealers. Back to the topic of getting clarity!

Here are the action steps simplified:

Define your life’s mission in one powerful, clear sentence that captures your purpose and passion.

Identify and replace self-defeating thoughts with intentional, growth-focused questions that align with your God-given potential.

Create a weekly practice of asking yourself transformative questions that challenge your thinking and reveal new opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.

Ground your clarity journey in Biblical truth, remembering that you are a chosen, loved child of God, designed with unique purpose and incredible worth.

This journey of clarity isn’t about perfection—it’s about intentionality. As a Bible-believing Christian, I know our worth isn’t determined by our performance, but by God’s incredible love.

I challenge you right now: Take a moment. Grab a journal. Write down ONE sentence that describes who you are and what you’re about. Just one sentence. For me, it’s simple: “I talk about business and mindsets from a Biblical Christian perspective.”

These powerful, intentional questions aren’t just mental exercises. They’re spiritual warfare against the lies that want to keep us stuck. When the enemy whispers “you’re not good enough,” we can counter with the truth that we are chosen, loved, and adopted into God’s family.

My prayer is that you’ll stop living on autopilot. Stop the mindless scrolling. Stop letting distractions steal your precious time and potential. Instead, get curious about your thoughts. Ask yourself meaningful questions. Seek clarity.

Remember, the answers aren’t “out there”—they’re inside you. And with God’s guidance, you have everything you need to create the life He’s designed for you.

Monette Sedberry

Monette hosts a weekly podcast: Mornings with Monette.
