Make it a Girl’s Night Out

Do you need a good laugh? Who doesn’t, right?

Gather your Girlfriends

Gather your girlfriends and go see 80 for Brady. Last night, 15 of us went. We were practically the only people in the theater. We all left in a jovial mood; our spirits uplifted. Gail, who organizes our movie nights, said: “I loved a film that I could see with all my girlfriends and every one of us could find something with which we could identify, regardless of our stage in life. I loved laughing with my girlfriends about shared experiences!” It is a classic chick flick. Though, due to the football theme, some guys will enjoy it.

My girlfriends at the theater

Today, at aerobics, I encouraged everyone to go see it. Many hadn’t heard of it or had questions, so I thought I’d share about it here.

First, it is just a fun movie! Yes, it is a little silly: 4 women over 80 (the Sally Fields character keeps reminding everyone that she is only 75) winning tickets to see the Superbowl and see Tom Brady—whom they have watched faithfully since his first game with the Patriots. It is heartwarming to watch these 4 life-long girlfriends. They have many differences, yet they clearly care for each other.

Inspired by a real-life story, 80 for Brady reminds us of the value of friendships and subtly encourages us, as Cindy Schock told me: “To be grateful for the beautiful friends we’ve had and still have.” She added: “I am inspired to create more wonderful memories with them. I don’t want to miss those opportunities to honor and show respect for them.”

Not the Stereotypical Old Ladies

Another big takeaway from the film is that age doesn’t limit fun. Cindy said: “I loved that it showed mature people in a beautiful light of fun, friendships, and humor.” These larger-than-life Golden Girls are not the “stereotypical old ladies.” Betty (Sally Field) wins a spicy food eating contest hosted by Guy Fieri. She also sets some new boundaries with her needy husband as she tells him: “Just because I’m capable of fixing the problem doesn’t mean I need to be the one to fix it.” Trish (Jane Fonda) is still hot to trot and, in a coat closet, has a mildly steamy scene with a former football player—a two-time Super Bowl winner named Dan. Lou (Lily Tomlin) is the ringleader who organizes the trip (some of my girlfriends see me as their “Lou”). We learn that her life circumstances make this trip more to her than just a chance to see her favorite player in person. Perhaps one of the most teachable moments comes with Maura (Rita Moreno). After her husband’s death, she lives in a retirement home. Mickey (Glynn Turman) is a bit sweet on her. He reminds her, and, therefore, us: “It’s less about what you do and more about who you do it with.”

80 for Brady is a great movie for this time of limited socialization in which so many of us have found ourselves. Gather your girlfriends and make it a girl’s night out! Last night, we did just that.

I haven’t been out to a movie in ages but I’m glad I finally did w a couple of gals to see a chick flick, “80 and Brady.” Plus, I got to take some better looks at Tom Brady and he really is a cutie!! And dreamy!! I imagine playing football, Producing this movie, and being married w a family got to be too much for Mrs Brady. But, I believe in Second Chances so maybe they’ll work it out after she sees the movie. I’ve always liked Lilly Tomlin since Laugh In but in this she shows a touching emotional side dealing w hope and strength to push on and overcome cancer PLUS encourages her beloved hero, Tom Brady, to win the Super Bowl.

This movie was very entertaining and had a great message for most of us. My true friends have really helped me this last year get thru my situation! My family is definitely #1 as my support , but my friends are also as important to me!! It is a must see movie for any age group that love to be with their friends!!
