Our paster did an interesting take on the typical Hebrews 11 “hall of faith.” He addressed an oft overlooked participant in the hall of faith: The People. I’m not going to give you the whole sermon here, though you could go and watch it. But he left us with this challenge: “How will your faith be a team sport this week?” Based on Hebrews 10:23-24, he pointed out: “Let us consider how we may spur on another on toward love and good deeds.”
Generosity
One of the things I love about living my best life is generosity—it is an important part of our Best-Life definition. When there is a need, we, who are in that sweet spot of life, jump right in to fill it. I think of the meals my friends and I have brought when a loved one has died.
Within our merry little band, we have a current need. No one has died. Instead, two precious little girls have been born—the twin granddaughters of one of my dearest friends: Peggy Norton. Brynlee and Claire were born on Feb 22, 2023. Babies and Mamma are healthy, but Mamma was in labor for 28 hours and gave birth naturally. Needless to say, she’ll have some recovery time.
Peggy has asked for help from our merry little band. She introduced me to a new app that makes it easier for each of us to be part of “Team Faith”—spurring one another on toward love and good deeds. MealTrain, makes it easy to sign up to provide a meal.
I signed up for the next available date: March 1. I am going to do Spicy Chicken Casserole. I reached out to my friends to see if someone wanted to join me in providing salad and/or dessert. So many signed up that we had to start a new day, with new contributors. The family’s likes and dislikes are provided at the site. For those who don’t like to cook, but still want to help, MealTrain also offers an option for restaurant gift cards. Many of our group have made donations.
I offered my friends this link for many one dish supper options. Here’s another one I found that I bet would be popular with the family of 5 (two adults, two teens, and a three year old). I may be making it, too—just later in the month.
Tangible Gesture
MealTrain is a tangible way we can all be a part of Team Faith as we spur on another on toward love and good deeds.
When you hear of a need within your community of friends and family, please be generous. It is a part of what living our best life really means. MealTrain is a modern tool that makes it easy for us to spur one another on to good deeds.
Go Team Faith!
Marita has spent the majority of her adult life working with women—helping them improve relationships, achieve their speaking and writing dreams, and being the best version of themselves they can possibly be. The author of 20 books, this Living Our Best Life Project is her newest effort—through which she hopes to challenge women to be fulfilled where they are.
I love this! Your pastor is wise to get people engaging again! And, These type of apps make it so much easier to help others these days…being able to get valuable info on peoples’ likes and dislikes, especially if you don’t know them.
This is a beautiful, tangible way to provide help to this family. One thought to keep in mind, if possible, bring the food in disposable containers so the busy mom doesn’t need to remember which plate came from whom and try to return them.
Your mom, Florence Littauer, always taught us as CLASS Staff, to “be alert to life.” Any of us who were around her, can still hear that “message”…. and Marita, you certainly were ALERT! Good call! Thank you…yay Team!
This is a great reminder Marita, to keep our eyes open for those who may need a helping hand!
As a Texan myself, I’m so glad to hear you share this. I’m not part of a “team” but just do it when I hear someone isn’t feeling well. I thought it was just what we Texans do. LOL!!! But, I learned this from my Texas grandmother who was a good Baptist woman and was always sharing or doing for others also. We know how meaningful it is when we’ve received this kindness as well.
