Have you ever pondered the idea that successful business principles are actually successful life principles?
As I addressed previously, I’m taking a new direction with my posts and diving deep into four topics sports, business/personal development, Christian faith, and personal relationships—exploring the connections among these four areas. The goal is to uncover insights and tools that will help us pursue our passions and help us build a brighter, more fulfilling future. In this post, we’re zeroing in on business—a subject that has always fascinated me, so much so that I chose to study it in college.
While I was in college, I was recruited by a Nashville publishing company to sell educational books door-to-door during the summers. It was 100% commission. I was going to school in New Mexico and spent my first summer in Lancaster Pennsylvania. I worked for the company for 7 years each summer spent in a different part of the United States. I not only sold but got involved in their management program. This was the hardest job I have ever had, but also the most rewarding. I experienced incredible success, made a ton of money, and learned valuable entrepreneurial principles. The most important lesson is to not take rejection personally. Looking back, I still feel I had a crash course on life while I was knocking on doors those seven summers and being in the homes of thousands and thousands of families. The ideas and tools I share with you, I have tested firsthand. They are tried and true principles. I trained hundreds of college students in not only selling skills but goal setting and how to not take rejection personally. By believing and encouraging each one of them, I taught them that their attitude is one of the most important pieces to being successful at anything in life. That experience had a profound effect on my life. This was a crash course in not only learning business principles but applying them.
Another piece of my personal business background includes commercial real estate in Dallas and working with my husband with our commercial real estate business in New Mexico. To this day, I have an ongoing passion for business.
This content is for you, the Christian woman who has been, or is currently in, the business world. She has a deep respect for business principles but may not have considered how valuable these lessons are and how they can empower you in your personal growth and development. In this new series, once we do an overview of Sports, business/personal development principles, Faith and Christianity, and personal relationships we will bring it all together. We will create our life blueprint; our mission statement.
Stay with me in this series, I believe the outcome we create together will be invaluable to each of us.
I’m going start by sharing some of my personal favorite business principles and some ideas I found when I did a search on business principles and successful life principles. Here’s the overview:
Strategic Goal Setting
Clearly define your business goals and create a comprehensive plan to achieve them, ensuring a roadmap for success.
Attitude is Key
Cultivate a positive and resilient attitude as it directly influences your ability to overcome challenges and reach new heights in your business endeavors.
Choose Your Associates Wisely
Surround yourself with individuals who inspire and elevate you, as the company you keep plays a pivotal role in your personal and professional development.
Discipline and Consistency
Success is often built on small, consistent actions. Embrace discipline and commit to following through on your tasks diligently, remembering that progress is made inch by inch.
Integrity Matters
Uphold your promises and commitments; integrity is the foundation of trust in business relationships and contributes significantly to long-term success.
Focus on the Right Things
Direct your attention to the most critical aspects of your business. Focusing on the right areas ensures optimal use of your time and resources, propelling you towards your objectives.
Adaptability and Resilience
Embrace change and remain resilient in the face of challenges. Flexibility allows you to navigate uncertainties and adapt your strategies for continued success.
Continuous Learning
Stay informed about industry trends and constantly seek to expand your knowledge. Continuous learning is a catalyst for innovation and maintaining a competitive edge.
Effective Communication
Master the art of communication, as it fosters strong relationships with clients, partners, and team members. Clear communication is vital for achieving collective goals.
Balance and Well-being
Strive for a harmonious balance between work and personal life. Ensuring your well-being contributes to sustained success by fostering creativity, productivity, and overall satisfaction.
As you read these, what did you think? Can you see how valuable these business principles are; how if we apply them to our personal lives we could take our lives to another level?
For me I love the topic of business almost as much as I love the topic of christianity and studying the Bible, sports, and the study of improving our personal relationships.
Yet, you may be asking yourself why is this important? I feel it’s important because we have been given this incredible gift called life. We’ve been given this thinking brain that loves to learn and loves to create. In the world we are living in right now, if we’re not careful we can get caught up in consumption. Scrolling on social media mindlessly, binge watching Netflix or whatever your personal flavor of consumption is. I believe we are meant for more than that. I believe in that phrase use it or lose it! Stimulating our brain with new ideas, figuring out how to contribute with the gifts and talents that are unique to each of us is what we are meant to do in this life. We are here for a reason, for a purpose!
Stay with me on this series. Next we will go into Christianity and then a post on personal relationships.
