Life is filled with transitions. If you lean into them, your life will be enriched if you embrace the adventure and move through the transitions. On the other hand, if you fail to embrace the changes and transitions, you might become bitter and feel useless.
We need to keep our bodies active so they can remain active. If you don’t do this, even basic activities become more painful than enjoyable. If that happens, you will really feel old—and you don’t want that.
By this point in life, if you are still married to your first husband, you’ve likely had ebbs and flows. Trying to infuse your relationship with humor and laughter can help elevate wherever you are right now.
Friends keep you balanced when the rest of your world feels like it’s spinning out of control. What I know now more than anything else, is to cherish and honor my friendships!
The day of the party, make the Dark Chocolate Guinness Cake with Bailey’s Icing. Start with the cake. You do not want to serve it hot as it will melt the icing. This makes it a good choice for baking earlier in the day. One note on the recipe. It says to butter and line the springform pan (also known as a cheesecake pan), but the recipe doesn’t say what to line it with. I checked other similar recipes and they did not suggest lining the pan. I buttered it, but didn’t line it. It worked fine. I suggest making the cake in the morning and the frosting later, early afternoon. Once frosted, I put the cake in the refrigerator so the frosting sets up. As the recipe indicates, the frosting should look like the froth on a glass of Guinness. So, just spread it over the top. Bring it back to room temperature before serving.
When I first moved to Lubbock, I literally cried to Chuck that I didn’t know enough people to have a dinner party. Now, 8+ years later, I have so many friends, I cannot fit them all around my limited dining space. I realized that I wasn’t hosting the parties, that are a big part of who I am, because I didn’t want to leave anyone out—but I couldn’t fit everyone in.
During the planning of the trip of a lifetime to the Banff and Jasper area of Alberta, Canada, we were trying to narrow down what to see as a group to make it a terrific experience. It’s always a good idea to do this when traveling in a “caravan.”
Hopefully, as the years go by, our experiences teach us that life’s greatest rewards come from serving others. Whether we are of modest means or can set a private cruise in motion with a phone call, we have gifts to share. These are not all material. In fact, the best gifts come in sharing ourselves authentically with another.
My teacher kept telling me, “Stop thinking; just paint,” so I did. What came out of it was a very powerful painting that is still one of my favorites to this day. I titled it, Emerging/Disappearing?.
This was the beginning of a new direction in painting for me as I found that it gave me an outlet for all the emotions I had buried all my life. I have since sold many pieces and done commissions.
When traveling, it is advisable to have a back-up credit card in case any happens to the first one. Different cards are different. Check them out to determine which set of pro and cons will work the best for your individual situation. Regardless of which card you choose, it is helpful to advise them of your travel plans so your card is not denied when you try to use it in a foreign country.
