I don’t know about you, but time feels like it is speeding up. It seems like it was just Christmas and now we are in August! I want to talk about this topic: Fierce Belief in Possibilities, because if you don’t take the time to really think about new possibilities, time just marches on and that imagination that used to get you excited goes dormant. It’s the old “use it or lose it!” If you don’t build muscle it continues to atrophy! You can reignite that part of you that had high hopes, ideas, and spontaneity. It’s still there, it’s just gotten lazy.
What are you doing to stimulate your brain? When have you driven somewhere new even within 5 to 10 miles from where you live and looked around at that area, with fresh eyes, taking in all of it, just being curious? When have you challenged yourself physically and looked beyond the limits you put on yourself because of fear? When was the last time you talked to a complete stranger? When did you quit smiling and saying “Hi” to people, even if it feels uncomfortable? When was the last time you sat down with a friend you haven’t seen in a long time and genuinely became curious about how their life is doing? These are all personal choices we can make with time that will open us up.
We all become creatures of habit and, with most of us, we can’t see it. I’ve been thinking about this lately, we think we want comfort, and to a degree we do, but if we are not careful, comfort turns into comfort zone. We don’t stimulate our thinking and think about new possibilities. We get on the treadmill of life doing tasks and not even living consciously or intentionally. We become passive passengers in our own lives. When have you challenged yourself lately? Have you lost your zest? What is your attitude about the weeks, months and years ahead? Please ponder this phrase “A Fierce Belief in Possibilities.”
I believe our imagination and the ability to create is a gift; a gift that we sometimes don’t even know we are squandering. We are in an age where entertainment is at our fingertips. Think about it, we now have a small computer in our purse or in our pocket and can summon entertainment within seconds when we turn on our cell phone. We can watch reel after reel or Tik Tok after Tik Tok. We can watch Netflix, a movie, sports, you name it–all in one click. We can get on our social media feeds and 30 minutes to an hour go by.
My biggest challenge in creating weekly content is mind numbing distractions. If I can take a short walk, or listen to something that stimulates my thinking like a great podcast or a new audible book to get myself in a grateful and playful attitude, then ideas really start formulating in my mind. I feel I’m tapping into my imagination. My brain gets activated. The creative juices start flowing. I get excited! What about you?
What dreams do you still have? What is that thing that you have in the back of your mind, that if you actually pursued it, it would light you up?
Get out that journal and respond to these four ideas to get your brain activated and to help you tap into a dormant part of yourself that will steer you towards experiences of deep satisfaction. You can find new purpose for your life.
If you are thinking: “I don’t have time to do this”, I believe you don’t have time to not do it! This exercise should energize you! This is a pro-active exercise. I want you to do this exercise and be playful. Tap into your imagination!
- Explore Your Passions
Reflect on activities, subjects, or causes that you feel strongly about or have always been curious about exploring further. These could be hobbies, interests, or values that you’ve neglected or put aside due to other commitments or responsibilities.
- Envision Your Ideal Life
Imagine what your life would look like if you could design it exactly as you wanted; without any constraints or limitations. Consider the type of work you would do, the people you would surround yourself with, the places you would live or travel to, and the impact you would like to have on the world, your community, your spouse or your family.
- Revisit Childhood Dreams
Think back to your childhood and the dreams, aspirations, or ambitions you had at that time. You know, it’s funny how the things we really wanted deep down as kids can hold the key to what truly fulfills us as adults. Before we got bogged down by all the “shoulds” and expectations from society, and worrying about being practical, we had a purer sense of what lit us up inside.
- Embrace Your Unique Strengths
Reflect on your natural talents, skills, and abilities that come effortlessly to you. Consider how you could leverage these strengths in new or unconventional ways to create something meaningful or make a positive impact on others.
By exploring these areas during a brainstorming session, you may uncover hidden passions, rediscover long-forgotten dreams, or gain clarity on how to align your life with your deepest values and sources of fulfillment. Pursuing these insights could lead to a sense of purpose and deep satisfaction.
Use this as an opportunity to tap into what you’re uniquely good at and figure out where to direct that energy and passion. And if you lay all these fresh ideas up against your personal blueprint and mission statement you crafted, as we addressed previously, the clarity you’ll get is mind-blowing.
You won’t be fighting with that nagging voice telling you pursuing your passions is selfish or impractical. With that clear vision of your values and purpose, you can silence those doubts. Having that blueprint makes it so much easier to confidently lean into the things that light you up without second-guessing yourself.
If you didn’t read those posts (or listen to the podcasts) please go back and check them out. For me, my Christian faith, diving deep into the world of tapping into my unique abilities and pursuing my dreams and passions, and having a clear set of values to test against these pursuits has taken so much of the pressure off of second guessing myself and doubts. When everything aligns, It’s what gives me the fuel and courage to create fresh content that I believe with improve your life!
One last thing, there is no exact right time. Your life can begin to change now, when you direct your mind in a powerful positive way. If you are bored with your life, you have the capability to change your life. But, you have to tap into, your imagination. You are uniquely you. You have been given gifts and talents. I believe God wants us to open our hearts and minds to greater possibilities.
Remember, time is going by, we can be passive passengers, or we can be the conductor. We must tap into our thinking brain and have a fierce belief in possibilities that are unique to each of us!
