When I was a teenager, I always anticipated the August edition of Seventeen magazine because it was full of stylish fall clothes and accessories. In similar fashion, it’s time to shift our focus here at Dressed for My Day to preparing our wardrobes for cooler days ahead. Yes, we’re having record heat here in Cincinnati today, so in real life I’m still wearing linen dresses and shorts. But let’s start focusing here on how to transition into fall stylishly and comfortably with these easy, breezy cotton pants.
In an upcoming YouTube video I’ll be sharing some closet essentials for early fall. (Check out the Dressed for My Day with Kay Harms YouTube channel and subscribe if you haven’t already!) Transitioning into early fall—think September and early October—is all about having lightweight pieces that layer beautifully and comfortably for the shifting temperatures.
Transition Into Fall Stylishly & Comfortably with Everlane
Here, I’m sharing two pairs of super comfortable TENCEL™ Lyocell pants and different ways to style them for soon and later. You could certainly wear these sporty pull-on pants now if you’re ready to incorporate them into your lineup. The first outfit is mostly from Everlane.

First, I’m showing the Everlane tapered pant in butterlite, which is simply what they call their ultra soft 100% TENCEL™ Lyocell fabric. It has that stone washed texture that feels silky soft on the skin, and it’s lightweight and cool, too. I used their size guide to select a size L for my measurements and they fit true to size for a generous fit. Mine are in graphite, but the tapered pants also come in black and kalamata olive green.
I’m wearing the tapered pants with Everlane’s cozy-rib tee in black. Using the Everlane size chart, it also runs true to size; I’m wearing a large for a great fit. The cozy-rib tee has lots of stretch and feels so comfortable and soft. It’s a 70% organic cotton blend and is available in several other nice neutrals and a black and white stripe. I think it’s a little more elevated than a basic tee.

I created a very monochromatic “wear later look” here by topping the black cozy-rib tee with an Everlane black single button blazer in their dream fabric. This comfortable blazer has a very casual vibe but elevates any basic outfit. This combination would look great with a white tee swapped in as well.

In the first photo I wore my Naot Whetu sandals for a “wear now look.” But for our early fall outfit I swapped in my black loafers. You could also wear sneakers nicely here for a little juxtaposition. This all black, textured look does look a little heavy for right now. But when the first cool breezes start to blow in the next season, I’m going to be glad I have these basics in my closet. Obviously, I can swap them in and out with other items like a white tee, a denim jacket and those sneakers, too.

Transition Into Fall Stylishly & Comfortably with Faherty

I’ve created some very similar looks with Faherty. I wish I had ordered these Arlie pants in one of their other colors, such as the thyme, navy or even safari. But these faded black Arlies actually look very similar to the Everlane pants above. The 55% TENCEL™ Lyocell, 22% linen, 21% organic cotton and 2% elastane blend pants are extremely comfortable. I did size up to a Large in these. The mediums fit and look like they do on the model on the website, but the large feels better.

For this first look I wore the Arlies with my retro sneakers from ME+EM. I topped the pants with a simple white sunwashed crewneck tee, also from Faherty. Then I completed the look with the Faherty Inlet knit blazer in light oatmeal melange. I’m wearing a medium in the tee and the blazer for a very comfortable true to size fit.
Having simple tees, wearable pants and elevated layering pieces in your closet is a great way to transition into fall comfortable and stylishly. The Faherty Inlet knit blazer is also available in grey and navy.

I like to keep wearing some of my sandals like my Naots into the early fall, but it’s also a good time to start incorporating loafers and sneakers into your outfits. Above you saw me wear this outfit with my sneakers, but below I swapped in my Sam Edelman Loraine bit loafers.

I’ve worn Everlane for a few years now and consistently like the quality of their clothes. Faherty is new to me, but I loved the pieces I purchased in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that I decided to order these directly from the brand. Both are responsible, sustainable brands. But the prices are a little on the higher side. So, I also put together a style board for today’s looks with separates I found at Kohl’s. You can view it here on my original post.
