My clients often say they don’t know how they can stay on track in their health when they are going to gatherings with family or friends for events like the Super Bowl.
Here are some great strategies we can all use to help!
- Do not go to the event hungry, make sure you have “fueled” your body in a healthy way before arriving
- Keep water in your dominant hand, it reduces the temptation to reach for the munchies
- Focus on the people or the event (The Big Game!) vs the food
- Bring fun bubbly water to enjoy instead of selecting an adult beverage
- Plan ahead and bring something you CAN eat while staying healthy, this is a biggie! Others always love the healthy options I bring!
Some YUMMY Recipes to try
Not sure where to look for healthy recipes? Here are some of my favorite resources:
- OPTAVIA Lean and Green Pinterest page has wonderful recipes for meals or appetizers like the Steam Stuffed Mushrooms or Spaghetti Squash Nests
- This great handy guide also has several amazing recipes along with some fun ideas for kiddos at your gatherings. I have tried most of these and they are all delicious! The Bacon Cheeseburger Bites would be a huge WIN at the game this weekend!
- Sandy’s Kitchen has fantastic, well balanced, healthy recipes that align with the Lean and Green guidelines I use daily. Once you are on this page you can select “Lean and Green” at the top and navigate to appetizers for some great options. One of our favorites is the Creamy Buffalo Chicken Bake used as a dip with fresh veggies!
Let me leave you with this recipe that I used last night at a fun girlfriends gathering where we each brought bites to share.
These Cauliflower Pizza Bites were a huge hit!

Yield: 2 servings
Total Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients
2½ cups riced cauliflower
2 eggs
1¼ cup reduced-fat shredded mozzarella, divided
3 Tbsp grated Parmesan
½ tsp Italian seasoning
1/8 tsp salt
Cooking spray
6 turkey pepperoni slices
¼ cup no sugar added tomato sauce (such as Rao’s Homemade®)
¼ small green bell pepper, diced
1 Tbsp diced red onion
1 Tbsp sliced black olives
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 ˚F.
2. Add cauliflower rice to a medium-sized, microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 10 minutes, stirring halfway through.
3. Let cool, then add eggs, ¼ cup mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and salt.
4. Divide mixture evenly amongst 12 slots of a lightly greased standard sized muffin pan. Press down lightly to form mini crusts. Bake for 20 minutes.
5. Top each mini cauliflower crust with tomato sauce, remaining cheese, pepperoni, bell pepper, onion, and olives. Bake until cheese is melted, about 5 to 7 minutes.
Let’s score a TOUCHDOWN in our health while having a great time this weekend at the Big Game!
