Today, people say they want experiences, they choose to collect memories not things. One of the best ways to do this is with a girlfriend getaway!

My Best “Beach Reads”
The three books I read on my summer vacation were all classic “beach reads.” thread of the story.” Additionally, I like books that take place in modern day, with characters with cell phones and iPads. I don’t mind a romance, but I want it to be a side part of the story, not the main story. Family dramas with strong female characters are good, and a little mystery works for me. Considering my age, I like books with mature characters (which Maddie Please specializes in), and books that make me stop and think, and even highlight sections. Though these books are fiction, the authors work hard at crafting the exact word choices that make the life-truth relatable and memorable.
Helping the Young People in Our Lives Find Their Way
On each cruise, as I have interacted with these wonderful young people, I have been struck with what a great opportunity this is—especially for those who are at an in between place in life. This is true even for those who are a bit older. I’ve thought: “Maybe women my age have a grandchild (or great niece or nephew) for whom a job on ACL would be a perfect fit.” But who thinks of this? It is not like they’d be working for some foreign conglomerate. ACL is family owned and all American.
International Students are Grateful for America
I wish you could watch the four plus hours of video I have of these amazing women telling their stories and answering my questions about life for women in America. I hope that reading my review of times with them gives you insight and, perhaps, changes your ideas about international students.
Finding Love in the Second Half of Life
We all hope that hearing our stories will encourage many women who might be looking for love in the second half of life—even if they don’t know it! Our stories are all different, but I think we all agree that we never imagined we’d have the life we have now.
My Thoughts on Forest Fires
Like all of us, I am devastated by the apocalyptic loss of life and property in Southern California. But as the conversations over cause happen throughout the next many weeks and months, I hope that this time, with this President, something will finally change in our country; that they will manage the land in a way that protects the people who live there.
Dine Like Ronald Reagan
I hope that, by giving you the recipes and step-by-step instructions—along with photos of the actual evening, you will feel that you, too, can gather your friends around the table and make memories that will last you a lifetime.
Caribbean Dreams
Earlier this month, I had a Caribbean-themed Casita Marita Dinner Party. I asked everyone to dress as if they were on a Caribbean vacation. People asked for the recipes so I thought I’d share them here—along with a timeline for putting the party together with ease.
Are You Ready for Your Next Adventure?
Throughout Lauren’s and my recent travel, we’ve met people who have been on many cruises and to exotic places—Antarctica being just one of them. People asking Lauren why she’d go to Antarctica prompted a more general, more philosophical question: Why travel? Lauren queried her Facebook friends and I intentionally sat with people I didn’t know on my April cruise to learn their answers to the question.
Added Benefit of Exercise for Aging Population
If we are “frail and fragile,” we can’t live our best life. Get engaged in staying fit. You can do it on your own. You can watch YouTube videos, do a Peloton program, or something similar. But most of us find that the friendship and accountability we get from a group fitness class keeps us doing it. If you are not currently involved in a class, Silver Sneakers may be a good place to start. Many Medicare programs offer no-cost classes for adults who are 65+.
