The Power of Saying Yes Again: It’s Not Too Late to Try Something New

Posted on September 12, 2025September 12, 2025 by Stephanie Carter

    4 mins

I never thought I’d be the woman starting over in her 60s. Well sort of starting over. I wasn’t reborn or anything just had to learn to live in the new reality of divorce for the past 15 yrs and coming up from that pit was not easy. Whew!

I had dreams of the future and divorce was not one. Neither was my grown kids still living with me one either. But that is where we are at 60 years old.

After divorce, for a long time, I thought certain doors were closed and divorce was the scarlet letter “NO”. No to the good parts of life that you do with a spouse like travel, do ministry together, long weekends with no kids etc. Or, starting a new business idea, learning new skills, or stepping into a fresh calling. Can you tell I’m risky?

I thought I’d missed my moment. But somewhere deep in my spirit, I kept hearing this gentle nudge from God

“Say yes again.” And so, I did.

And let me tell you it changed everything. Maybe that is you too. Stuck. Feeling like you missed your moment. No, you didn’t. The moment just caught up to you.

My “Yes” Didn’t Come Easily

Maybe you’ve lived a full life already—raising a family, running a household, building a career, volunteering at church, caregiving for a loved one. You’ve worn so many hats and poured out so much. It’s easy to feel like this season is meant for winding down. Slowing up. Staying in the background. But what if you are just getting started with a new vision from God.

But I’m learning that God doesn’t retire us.

God is really not in the retiring business. He repurposes us. Somewhere along the way, I started asking myself when God asked me that question.  What if I said yes again? What if this season could be just as full of purpose, adventure, and joy as the ones before it—maybe even more? Am I too old? Am I supposed to wind down?

Here’s What My “Yes” Looked Like

Let me be honest—I didn’t leap into something massive or dramatic. It started small with obedience. Yes to each small thing God asked of me. But every little yes added up. And they began to wake something up inside of me.

I said yes to new vision for women and Titus 2 Collection was birthed. A ministry of older women ministering to younger women. The writing for that program has begun.

I said yes to expanding my biblical insight life coaching business. I said yes to writing the bible studies that have been in my heart for years to write. One yes at a time.

I didn’t want to sit still just because I’ve hit a certain number on the calendar. My heart was now bursting with more new vision, goals and dreams than ever. I no longer worried about the days left to live but living the days I have in front of me.

I said yes to learning new technology like ChatGPT. (Still don’t know how it works but getting there because chatting to a screen is kind of weird)

I said yes to living alone and can now vision my kids moving out on their own. I said yes to joining a new church. I said yes to doing my own podcast.

And…I said yes to loving myself and enjoying myself in new ways. I said yes to my life that God has given to me.

Can I just tell you—I never thought I’d be recording podcasts, running my own coaching business, blogging, helping women and writing books.

I got tired of looking at my life through the lens of the past so I took a deep breath, asked for help, and started learning.

It turns out, I’m not too old. I’m just getting started.

You may have no plans to be an entrepreneur. But maybe God has plans you don’t yet know about. But, if and when He comes to you, will you say yes to Him? I had no grand plans of being an entrepreneur at this age. But God stirred something in me that just wouldn’t go away. A passion. A vision. A little spark that I couldn’t ignore.

I started dreaming about helping other women live their best life. Something meaningful, something that served others and brought me joy.

Why We Stop Saying Yes

Even though I have this dream and new vision I’ve had to wrestle with some beliefs along the way. Maybe you have too. The ones that whisper:

“You missed your chance.”

“You should have done this in your 30s.”

“Who do you think you are starting over now?”

Let me lovingly remind both of us—those are lies.

Because the truth is:

I’m not starting from scratch. I’m starting from experience.

I’m not behind. I’m right on time.

I’m not too old. I’m wise, seasoned, and grounded in who I am.

AND so are you.

And more than anything God still has plans for me and for you. Beautiful, unexpected, meaningful plans.

Reinventing Myself—With God

This season of my life doesn’t look like I thought it would. But in many ways, it’s more real, more joyful, and more fulfilling than the seasons before. I no longer grieve the past and neither should you if you find yourself here. God is the Master of new things, and He says that He makes all things beautiful in His time.

When He keeps whispering, “Say yes to Me. Trust Me. It’s not too late.” I trust and believe.

And every time I say yes, I get a little braver. A little freer. A little more like the woman He created me to be.

What Does Saying Yes Again Look Like for You?

Maybe for you, it’s:

  • Planning a solo trip or a retreat with girlfriends
  • Starting a new ministry or Bible study group
  • Learning how to use technology to stay connected
  • Writing the book that’s been on your heart for decades
  • Launching a business or mentoring younger women
  • Saying yes to fun, to creativity, to yourself

Whatever it is—you don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to begin. And it can start with one brave, quiet, holy word—Yes.

Friend, I need you to know—this isn’t the end of your story. It’s a powerful new chapter.

You have wisdom, grace, and fire that only come with living a full life. You’ve walked through things. You’ve learned lessons. You’ve gained insight that younger women desperately need.

The world needs your voice. The Church needs your strength. The lost need saving. You have a part. You’re still called, still chosen, and still capable of more than you realize.

Final Thoughts: Let’s Say Yes Together

I don’t know exactly what’s next for me. But it sure is fun saying yes to God at this age and going on new spiritual discoveries every day. God is FUN!  I just know I’m not done. I know God still has surprises waiting. I know there are still people I’m meant to love, places I’m meant to go, and work I’m meant to do.

So, I’m going to keep saying yes. Yes, to growth. Yes, to purpose. Yes, to joy.

And I hope you will, too.
